Other - Other programming languages including Basic, Business
Basic, Visual Basic, DataFlex, Pascal, DBase, FoxPro, Assembler and more.
With 20 years in software development I have seen a lot of languages and
tools come and go. At the time some of them were very good choices for the
job that needed doing, Others were chosen for reasons that had nothing to
do with the project.
- This software company wanted to upgrade an Order fulfillment system
that they had been selling for 10 years. The old system did not scale
to larger companies, they wanted a system that would meet the needs of
the largest of their customers. I met with each of the three largest
customers to learn what they needed, I designed and built a replacement
system that had many new features, including user configurable order
processing, special items handling, user configurable screens user configurable
printing, warehouse location management, routed order picking and intelligent
batch processing that increased system salability by a factor of 5. I
also added call center integration that would display the callers account
from the ANI telephone number identification. Finally with the new web
e-commerce, the system had configurable interfaces to allow easy integration
with the e-commerce web servers that were also taking orders.
- This software company had built a number of custom application for collection
lawyers and wanted to produce a general purpose credit card and installment
loan collection system and a bankruptcy processing system for credit
issuers. I designed a user configurable state based processing system
that queued work for each account depending on it's current state. This
system also interfaced with auto dialer systems to improve the collectors
collection rates. This system had programmable host interfaces to allow
easy connection to the host systems.
- This education company wanted and automated finance and registration
system for it's 28 remote offices, additionally, they wanted it to transmit
the information back to the main office at the end of the week. They
had a system that they had been working on for two years that was not
working. I redesigned and re-implemented parts of the system to bring
it up to date. Within six months they were fully operational.
- This energy management company wanted to have a programmable system
to manage their customers buildings. They had been using proprietary
controllers with limited capabilities. I designed and built a DOS based
real-time system that did everything the proprietary controllers and
added better scheduling, holiday schedules, telephone voice response
and remote access from a second computer.
